Jesus Blesses the Children

13One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him.G2532G4374G3813G846G2443G680G846G1161G3101G2008G4374 14When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.G1161G2424G1492G23G2532G2036G846G863G3813G2064G4314G3165G2532G2967G846G3361G1063G5108G2076G932G2316 15I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn't receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it."G281G3004G5213G3739G1209G3362G1209G932G2316G5613G3813G1525G3364G1525G1519G846 16Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.G2532G1723G846G1723G5087G5495G1909G846G2127G846

The Rich Man

17As Jesus was starting out on his way to Jerusalem, a man came running up to him, knelt down, and asked, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"G2532G1607G1519G846G3598G4370G1520G4370G2532G1120G846G1905G846G18G1320G5101G4160G2443G2816G166G2222 18"Why do you call me good?" Jesus asked. "Only God is truly good.G1161G2424G2036G846G5101G3004G3165G18G3762G18G1508G1520G2316 19But to answer your question, you know the commandments: 'You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. You must not cheat anyone. Honor your father and mother.'c"G1492G1785G3431G3361G3431G5407G3361G5407G2813G3361G2813G5576G3361G5576G650G3361G5091G4675G3962G2532G3384 20"Teacher," the man replied, "I've obeyed all these commandments since I was young."G1161G611G2036G846G1320G3956G5023G5442G1537G3450G3503 21Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. "There is still one thing you haven't done," he told him. "Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."G1161G2424G1689G846G25G846G2532G2036G846G1520G4671G5302G5217G4453G3745G2192G2532G1325G4434G2532G2192G2344G1722G3772G2532G1204G142G4716G190G3427 22At this the man's face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.G1161G4768G1909G3056G565G3076G1063G2192G2258G4183G2933 23Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God!"G2532G2424G4017G3004G846G3101G4459G1423G2192G5536G1525G1519G932G2316 24This amazed them. But Jesus said again, "Dear children, it is very hardc to enter the Kingdom of God.G1161G3101G2284G1909G846G3056G1161G2424G611G3825G3004G846G5043G4459G1422G2076G3982G1909G5536G1525G1519G932G2316 25In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!"G2076G2123G2574G1525G1330G1223G5168G4476G2228G4145G1525G1519G932G2316 26The disciples were astounded. "Then who in the world can be saved?" they asked.G1161G1605G4057G3004G4314G1438G2532G5101G1410G4982 27Jesus looked at them intently and said, "Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God."G1161G2424G1689G846G3004G3844G444G102G235G3756G3844G2316G1063G3844G2316G3956G2076G1415 28Then Peter began to speak up. "We've given up everything to follow you," he said.G2532G4074G756G3004G846G2400G2249G863G3956G2532G190G4671 29"Yes," Jesus replied, "and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News,G1161G2424G611G2036G281G3004G5213G2076G3762G3739G863G3614G2228G80G2228G79G2228G3962G2228G3384G2228G1135G2228G5043G2228G68G1700G1752G2532G2098 30will receive now in return a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and property—along with persecution. Jesus Again Predicts His Death

32They were now on the way up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. The disciples were filled with awe, and the people following behind were overwhelmed with fear. Taking the twelve disciples aside, Jesus once more began to describe everything that was about to happen to him.G1161G2258G1722G3598G305G1519G2414G2532G2424G2258G4254G846G2532G2284G2532G190G5399G2532G3880G3825G1427G756G3004G846G3195G4819G846 33"Listen," he said, "we're going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Manc will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. They will sentence him to die and hand him over to the Romans.G3754G2400G305G1519G2414G2532G5207G444G3860G749G2532G1122G2532G2632G846G2288G2532G3860G846G1484 34They will mock him, spit on him, flog him with a whip, and kill him, but after three days he will rise again."G2532G1702G846G2532G3146G846G2532G1716G846G2532G615G846G2532G5154G2250G450

Jesus Teaches about Serving Others

35Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came over and spoke to him. "Teacher," they said, "we want you to do us a favor."G2532G2385G2532G2491G5207G2199G4365G846G3004G1320G2309G2443G4160G2254G3739G1437G154 36"What is your request?" he asked.G1161G2036G846G5101G2309G3165G4160G5213 37They replied, "When you sit on your glorious throne, we want to sit in places of honor next to you, one on your right and the other on your left."G1161G2036G846G1325G2254G2443G2523G1520G1537G4675G1188G2532G1520G1537G4675G2176G1722G4675G1391 38But Jesus said to them, "You don't know what you are asking! Are you able to drink from the bitter cup of suffering I am about to drink? Are you able to be baptized with the baptism of suffering I must be baptized with?"G1161G2424G2036G846G1492G3756G5101G154G1410G4095G4221G3739G1473G4095G2532G907G908G3739G1473G907 39"Oh yes," they replied, "we are able!" Then Jesus told them, "You will indeed drink from my bitter cup and be baptized with my baptism of suffering.G1161G2036G846G1410G1161G2424G2036G846G4095G3303G4095G4221G3739G1473G4095G2532G908G3739G1473G907G907 40But I have no right to say who will sit on my right or my left. God has prepared those places for the ones he has chosen."G1161G2523G1537G3450G1188G2532G1537G3450G2176G2076G3756G1699G1325G235G3739G2090 41When the ten other disciples heard what James and John had asked, they were indignant.G2532G1176G191G756G23G4012G2385G2532G2491 42So Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them.G1161G2424G4341G846G3004G846G1492G3754G1380G757G1484G2634G846G2532G846G3173G2715G846 43But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant,G1161G3779G2071G3756G2071G1722G5213G235G3739G1437G2309G1096G3173G1722G5213G2071G5216G1249 44and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else.G2532G3739G302G5216G2309G1096G4413G2071G1401G3956 45For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many."G1063G2532G5207G444G2064G3756G1247G235G1247G2532G1325G846G5590G3083G473G4183

Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus

46Then they reached Jericho, and as Jesus and his disciples left town, a large crowd followed him. A blind beggar named Bartimaeus c was sitting beside the road.G2532G2064G1519G2410G2532G846G1607G575G2410G2532G846G3101G2532G2425G3793G5185G924G5207G5090G2521G3844G3598G4319 47When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"G2532G191G3754G2076G2424G3480G756G2896G2532G3004G2424G5207G1138G1653G3165 48"Be quiet!" many of the people yelled at him. So they called the blind man. "Cheer up," they said. "Come on, he's calling you!"G2532G2424G2476G2036G846G5455G2532G5455G5185G3004G846G2293G1453G5455G4571 50Bartimaeus threw aside his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus.G1161G577G846G2440G450G2064G4314G2424 51"What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked. "My rabbic," the blind man said, "I want to see!"G2532G2424G611G3004G846G5101G2309G4160G4671G1161G5185G2036G846G4462G2443G308 52And Jesus said to him, "Go, for your faith has healed you." Jesus’ Triumphant Entry

11As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead.G2532G3753G1448G1519G2419G1519G967G2532G963G4314G3735G1636G649G1417G846G3101 2"Go into that village over there," he told them. "As soon as you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.G2532G3004G846G5217G1519G2968G2713G5216G2532G2112G1531G1519G846G2147G4454G1210G1909G3739G3762G444G2523G3089G846G71 3If anyone asks, 'What are you doing?' just say, 'The Lord needs it and will return it soon.'"G2532G1437G5100G2036G5213G5101G4160G5124G2036G3754G2962G2192G5532G846G2532G2112G649G846G5602 4The two disciples left and found the colt standing in the street, tied outside the front door.G1161G565G2532G2147G4454G1210G4314G2374G1854G1909G296G2532G3089G846 5As they were untying it, some bystanders demanded, "What are you doing, untying that colt?"G2532G5100G2476G1563G3004G846G5101G4160G3089G4454 6They said what Jesus had told them to say, and they were permitted to take it.G1161G2036G846G2531G2424G1781G2532G863G846G863 7Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it, and he sat on it.G2532G71G4454G4314G2424G2532G1911G846G2440G1911G846G2532G2523G1909G846 8Many in the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others spread leafy branches they had cut in the fields.G1161G4183G4766G846G2440G1519G3598G1161G243G2875G4746G1537G1186G2532G4766G1519G3598 9Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting, "Praise God!c Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the LORD!G2532G4254G2532G190G2896G3004G5614G2127G2064G1722G3686G2962 10Blessings on the coming Kingdom of our ancestor David! After looking around carefully at everything, he left because it was late in the afternoon. Then he returned to Bethany with the twelve disciples.G2532G2424G1525G1519G2414G2532G1519G2411G2532G4017G3956G2235G3798G5610G5607G1831G1519G963G3326G1427

And the disciples heard him say it.G2532G2424G611G2036G846G3367G5315G2590G1537G4675G3371G1519G165G2532G846G3101G191

Jesus Clears the Temple

15When they arrived back in Jerusalem, Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the people buying and selling animals for sacrifices. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves,G2532G2064G1519G2414G2532G2424G1525G1519G2411G756G1544G4453G2532G59G1722G2411G2532G2690G5132G2855G2532G2515G846G4453G4058 16and he stopped everyone from using the Temple as a marketplacec.G2532G863G3756G863G2443G5100G1308G4632G1223G2411 17He said to them, "The Scriptures declare, 'My Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations,' but you have turned it into a den of thieves."cG2532G1321G3004G846G1125G3756G1125G3754G3450G3624G2564G3956G1484G3624G4335G1161G5210G4160G846G4693G3027 18When the leading priests and teachers of religious law heard what Jesus had done, they began planning how to kill him. But they were afraid of him because the people were so amazed at his teaching.G2532G1122G2532G749G191G2532G2212G4459G622G846G1063G5399G846G3754G3956G3793G1605G1909G846G1322 19That evening Jesus and the disciples leftc the city.G2532G3753G3796G1096G1607G1854G4172 20The next morning as they passed by the fig tree he had cursed, the disciples noticed it had withered from the roots up.G2532G4404G3899G1492G4808G3583G1537G4491 21Peter remembered what Jesus had said to the tree on the previous day and exclaimed, "Look, Rabbi! The fig tree you cursed has withered and died!"G2532G4074G363G3004G846G4461G2396G4808G3739G2672G3583 22Then Jesus said to the disciples, "Have faith in God.G2532G2424G611G3004G846G2192G4102G2316 23I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, 'May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.G1063G281G3004G5213G3754G3739G302G2036G5129G3735G142G2532G906G1519G2281G2532G1252G3361G1252G1722G846G2588G235G4100G3754G3739G3004G1096G846G2071G3739G1437G2036 24I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you've received it, it will be yours.G1223G5124G3004G5213G3745G3956G302G154G4336G4100G3754G2983G2532G5213G2071 25But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too."G2532G3752G4739G4336G863G1536G2192G1536G2596G5100G2443G5216G3962G2532G3588G1722G3772G863G5213G5216G3900 26cG1161G1487G5210G863G3756G863G3761G863G5216G3962G3588G1722G3772G863G5216G3900

The Authority of Jesus Challenged

27Again they entered Jerusalem. As Jesus was walking through the Temple area, the leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders came up to him.G2532G2064G3825G1519G2414G2532G846G4043G1722G2411G2064G4314G846G749G2532G1122G2532G4245 28They demanded, "By what authority are you doing all these things? Who gave you the right to do them?"G2532G3004G846G1722G4169G1849G4160G5023G2532G5101G1325G4671G5026G1849G2443G4160G5023 29"I'll tell you by what authority I do these things if you answer one question," Jesus replied.G1161G2424G611G2036G846G1905G2504G1905G5209G1520G3056G2532G611G3427G2532G2046G5213G1722G4169G1849G4160G5023 30"Did John's authority to baptize come from heaven, or was it merely human? Answer me!"G908G2491G2258G1537G3772G2228G1537G444G611G3427 31They talked it over among themselves. "If we say it was from heaven, he will ask why we didn't believe John.G2532G3049G4314G1438G3004G1437G2036G1537G3772G2046G1302G3767G4100G3756G4100G846 32But do we dare say it was merely human?" For they were afraid of what the people would do, because everyone believed that John was a prophet.G235G1437G2036G1537G444G5399G2992G1063G537G2192G2491G3754G2258G4396G3689 33So they finally replied, "We don't know." And Jesus responded, "Then I won't tell you by what authority I do these things."G2532G611G3004G2424G1492G3756G1492G2532G2424G611G3004G846G3761G1473G3004G5213G1722G4169G1849G4160G5023
